Hope by Jimmie Hepp Surfboard Print
Hope Metal Surfboard Print is a tribute to one of Hawaiʻi's most beloved living landmarks. Photographer Jimmie Hepp frames the magnificent Lahaina Banyan Tree in its full, awe-inspiring scale — the ancient trunk and sprawling canopy of aerial roots filling every corner of the frame, dappled light filtering through the canopy overhead, park benches and lampposts nestled beneath branches that have been growing since 1873. A tree that has witnessed more than 150 years of Lahaina's history, and is still standing.
Also known as a Lahaina Banyan Tree art print, Maui historic landmark photography wall art, or Lahaina Courthouse Square metal print, this piece carries meaning that goes beyond a beautiful photograph. The Lahaina Banyan Tree — planted as a single sapling in 1873 to mark the 50th anniversary of American Protestant missionaries arriving in Hawaiʻi — has grown into one of the largest banyan trees in the United States, with nearly an acre of canopy and more than a dozen trunks. It survived the devastating 2023 Lahaina wildfires that claimed so much of the town around it, making it not just a landmark but a symbol of resilience and hope for the Lahaina community. Jimmie Hepp's title says it simply and exactly. Printed using dye-sublimation technology onto a specialty cut ChromaLuxe aluminum panel shaped like a surfboard, the deep greens, layered roots, and warm filtered light come alive on metal with a depth and texture that honors the complexity of this extraordinary tree.
